Suggest Remedy For Pain In Foot

I play basketball every day for about an hour. I am 59. I was learning an entirely new move which is a right handed hook shot and it puts pressure on your right foot. Now when I do the move I feel pain around the bones in the middle of the outside of the foot. The pain goes away if I don t exercise and you feel the food trying to heal itself when I don t exercise (slight pain). Do you think I might have a stress fracture and should I just stop playing on that foot for a while or do I need a cast to really imobilize the foot to let it heal.

Hello,

I recommend consulting with on orthopedic surgeon for a physical exam and performing a foot MRI in order to examine the bones and soft tissues around. In the meantime, I recommend avoiding repeated trauma by playing.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
