Can Prolixin Be Taken With Lithium For Bipolar Disorder?

My sister is on Prolixin she is gettin g injections. She has been diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder. She also is taking Lithium . Does she need to take the Prolixin with the Lithium. She has been diagnosed with a chemical problem She is not psychotic. She was diagnosed 33 years ago. Can you give me some insight.

I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Prolixin is fluphenazine. Its an antipsychotic and used in cases of psychosis especially schizophrenia. If the diagnosis for sure is bipolar mood disorder, then the antipsychotics she needs to be on are olanzapine or quetiapine, not the prolixin. Prolixin increases the chances of switch to mania and hence should be avoided.
Regarding lithium, its a good drug for bipolar mood disorder. Si she can continue that along with olazapine or quetiapine. You have not mentioned the symptoms, so please cross check the diagnosis.
