Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi, two weeks a go I started taking Prozac 20 mg...one week ago I started having chills, sore throat and low grade fever........I have cycled through a chough, runny nose, congestion and now my ears are popping every time I swallow...I have been taking otc cold and sinus meds such as alka seltzer severe cold & flu and Dayquil... my question is I know that you can have flu like symptoms when you stop taking Prozac, but did the start of taking Prozac have anything to do with making me sick or is it coencidential that I seemed to get a viral sickness at the same time?.....how long should it take before I start feeling better?
Prozac would not cause you to develop cough and cold symptoms. These symptoms are due to exposure the virus causing the common cold and not due to medication.
In terms of recovery it varies from one person to the next but in general takes 1 to 2 weeks for most persons to recover.
I hope this helps
