Can Robitussin For Chronic Cough Cause Constipation And Hives?

I take Robitussin DM at night for a chronic cough. I was off of it for two days, while I was in the hospital for something not related. When I returned home I started taking it again and now have broke out in hives. Could it be from the Robitussin? Also, can Robitussin cause constipation?

Hi,
Yes Constipation is one of the side effects of Robitussin as it decreases the motiity of gut. Infact, any drug used for cough has constipation as one of the side effects.
However, Hives is probably not related to the drug .
I'd advice you to get hives treated properly by your treating doctor and try and find out the involved factor.
Hope that has cleared your query. Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.
Regards,
Dr. Sridhar
