Can Taxim O And Sinarest Be Taken While Breastfeeding?
Hi, My baby is 3 months old and am breastfeeding him. I have irritation in my throat and a bit of shivering, doctor prescribed me to take Taxim-O and Sinarest. He diagnosed that I am having an infection. Please suggest me if it is safe to take these tablets while am breastfeeding.
Taxim o contains cefexime which is a cephalosporin. Cefixime is secreted in a very low amount in breast milk and appeared to be safe in lactating mother. Though mild risk of nausea or diarrhoea or thrush may be there. You have to be watchful for these conditions.
Sinarest contains paracetamol, chlorphenaramine, pseudoephedrine. Among these 1st two drugs are quite safe in lactating mother. But pseudoephedrine though dosnt affect baby but can reduce breast milk production. So these medications are not recommended in breastfeeding for more than 2-3dys.
Gargle with hot water may help to reduce symptoms. Though these drugs are relatively safe for short time use in breastfeeding many of them are secreted in milk at a small amount. Any abnormalities seen in your child has to be taken with concern.
