Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I take 100 mg Losartan can I add Tektuma to my Blood pressure med? I need to get my BP down. O will Tektuma work better than Losartan alone. I do not want a diuretic as my hemocrit level is high 18 I am 86 years old and do a lot of intense exercise. My BP runs 170/90 and pulse 45 bpm or so. Thank you for any help
It is not safe to take Tekturna while on Losartan. Taking Tekturna together with Losartan may increase the risk of serious side effects such as kidney problems, low BP, and hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in the blood). Hyperkalemia in severe cases can lead to kidney failure, muscle paralysis, irregular heart rhythm, and cardiac arrest.
These medications therefore should not be used together, particularly if you are diabetic or have preexisting kidney problems. Other risk factors include advanced age, dehydration, severe heart failure, or recent heart attack. Consult your doctor for an alternative effective but safer combination like Losartan with Amlodipine that does not interact with each other.
It is important that you maintain adequate fluid intake during treatment with these medications and get your BP monitored regularly.
Hope these answer your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. A feedback is appreciated.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
