Hi There, My endocrinologist just suggested a change in my medication, which had been working well. She wants me to move to —25mcg/day of Tirosint —5 mcg/day of methimazole I was on —75mcg/day of Tirosint, plus 25mcg of Tirosint on Mon. & Fri, which seemed to finally be working: My TSH was down to .69 after hovering around 7. My antibodies had dropped form 435 to 38.5. I was feeling pretty consistently good. Her theory is that the antibodies (38.5) are still high and the methimazole would tackle these—and if we lower the antibodies, we won’t need as much Tirosint. (She also thought the TSH at .69 was too low.) I tried to follow her explanation when we were on the phone, but got really worried about it after I hung up. Especially after I talked with the pharmacist, who says she’s never seen this combo and wasn’t clear why the METHIMAZOLE would make sense since it’s for HYPERthyroidism. Or why the change in the tirosint dosage would be so dramatic. Can you comment on if/when these two are used together. She says she s seen good results, but everyone else I talk with is skeptical. Thank you !
