Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Greetings! I have been prescribed 50 mg Tramadol daily for arthritis issues which I take in the mornings, one a day. I also have a prescription to 5 mg Flexiril which I take occasionally in the evenings. Is there a risk involved in taking both of these meds? Thanks!
Unfortunately both of these medications increase the levels of a chemical called serotonin and can therefore result in levels that are too high.
This can cause serotonin syndrome which is a condition that can potentially cause fever, tremors, seizures, increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, confusion, agitation.
It would be best to substitute one of these medications to reduce any interaction.
I hope this helps
