Can Tramadol And Tylenol Be Taken Together?

Is there any drug interaction between Tramadol and extra strength Tylenol? Can I take Tramadol every 6 hours and extra strength Tylenol every 6 hours (however not the at the same time ex. Tramadol at 4:00pm and Tylenol at 7:00pm. and repeat each every 6 hours). I just had a mastectomy 2 weeks ago and I was doing this with Dilaidid and Tylenlol but I don t know if I can do it with Tramadol.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

Yes, Tramadol and Tylenol can be taken together.

Tylenol extra strength is commonly used to treat mild to moderate pain such as headaches, toothache, backache, osteoarthritis, or cold/flu aches and pains) and to reduce fever.

Sometimes opioids which stronger pain reliever like Tramadol or Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) are added along with Tylenol extra strength to treat moderate to severe pain.

These drugs will not cause any harmful interactions when taken along with Tylenol extra strength, hence can be taken safely with a time interval of 3 hours between the two medications as you had taken earlier.

Please remember do not take more than 6 tablets of each medicine per day as their overdose may result in severe or possibly fatal liver damage and respiratory depression.

Hope this answers your query.
