Can Vibrio Parahaemolyticus Lead To High Temperature, Stroke Or Death?
Hi Doctor Grief,
I need to know if you can die from Vibrio Parahaemolyticus if it's in your body for a long period of time? It you broke your neck in the ocean and are in ICU for 7 weeks, can this bacterium make you die if they don't find this right away? This was in my sons body for 7 weeks until they found this bacterium in his body. Can this cause high fevers? Can it make you have strokes? Can I talk with you about this? Thanks so much!

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.
Vibrio parahaemolyticus spreads through feco oral route, mainly through seafood which is raw or undercooked one. It causes watery diarrhea , nausea , vomiting , abdominal cramps and some times fever and these symptoms resolve with in 72 hours. Treatment is not required in most of the cases, few may need fluid and electrolyte correction.Infection of brain is not yet noted with this organism. Death occurs if fluid and electrolyte imbalance is not treated properly.
Hope this helps you.
Regards
