Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has been on Zoloft 100 mg qd for about 20 yrs. He asked the dr for something to help him sleep as he does suffer from insomnia sometimes. She prescribed him Buspirone HCL10 mg which is usually used for anxiety. Is it safe to mix these 2 drugs
Welcome to HCM, According to my multi-drug interaction checker, these two drugs are not safe to take together as they both elevate the neurotransmitter serotonin thus taking the chance of inducing a condition called Serotonin Syndrome. I would call the doctor and ask specifically if there was a safer alternative to use that would not elevate serotonin level to use for his insomnia.
A natural method to use to relieve insomnia and anxiety is to sip on lemon balm tea just before bedtime. It can be very relaxing.
