Can A 91 Year Old Take Adderall To Overcome Sleepiness Considering She Is Otherwise Healthy?
My mother in law is 91 yrs old and in reasonabley good health.She is asking isf there is a pill she can take to keep her from falling asleep all the time.She often sleeps 18 hrs/24.She is taking Lexapro 10mg as prescribed by per PCP but it has not made any difference.She is alert/oriented and not in any pain,just sleepy all the time.Would adderal be a possibility for her?

Well instead of starting a stimulant drug like Adderall to an elderly of her age you can try a non-stimulant drug which has good alertness and cognitive enhancing effects such as Strattera ( generic name -- atomoxetine) at dose of 10 mg once in a morning dose which shall help her over-sleepiness.
You see Adderall use in elderly may precipitate few serious side effects such as anxiety, paranoia , delusion, hallucination, manic episode , weight loss, etc so it will be better to use a safer drugs like Strattera which will provide her relief from over sleepiness without causing side effects.
