Can A Concussion Trigger An Ischemic Stroke?

I had a concussion from a fall about 6 weeks ago. I do have high pressure but it is controlled by medication. I also take Plavix since I thought I might have had two small previous TIAs before but they were never identified by the physician. Could the fall and concussion triggered the ischemic stroke? I had it while I was having an MRI and the tech said she couldn t wake me up after shaking me several times. Does a stroke mimic a seizure? Are they in different parts of the brain? I can t drive due to an accident I had about 2 weeks ago when I blacked out and ended across two lanes of highway. Thank goodness I wasn t hurt and no one was coming at the time since it was a small road.

Hi,

It is a little unclear whether the stroke diagnosis has been confirmed or is only a hypothesis. If the only symptom you had was the black out then it wouldn't be typical for an ischemic stroke. Since you have had an MRI it should be evident on the MRI, it is the best exam for imaging stroke. As for a stroke mimicking a seizure, yes at times they can be mistaken for each other. That is because there isn't a particular brain area they originate, they can potentially happen in any brain area. A seizure may also be a consequence of the stroke itself. As for the relation between concussion and stroke, no concussion in itself doesn't cause an ischemic stroke. Only in some cases when there is a traumatic damage to a blood vessel, a dissection, a tear in the blood vessel wall, it may cause a stroke, but again the dissection as well as the stroke would be evident in the MRI.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
