I have always had a heart murmur and so do many women in my famliy. However, mine seems to be more pronounced. Recently my boyfriend and I have talked about if we had children and how it would be good to be as prepared as possible for if I were to get pregnant . I have been reading different things on pregnancy and came across some articles saying that it is possible for a woman to develope a heart murmur during pregnancy. This made me wonder if it is possible for my heart murmur to get worse and cause problems for me or the fetus. If so, is there anything I could do to decrease this risk or anything I should watch for. Thanks, Conserned planner
Hello
Welcome to HealthcareMagic
A heart murmur is just a sign of underlying disease sometimes it may also be benign physiological murmur. But it isvery important to investigate or get examined by doctor to diagnose the problem.
Pregnancy increases the blood circulation and cardiac load and may increase the murmur but the main effect on fetus or mother will be determined by the nature of underlying disease or cause .
So kindly visit a doctor for best results
Thank you
