Can A Splinter On Hand While Cleaning Blood Of HIV Person Cause HIV Infection?

I cleaned up a big pool of blood and found out a week and a half later that the lady was hiv positive. I had a fresh splinter in my hand the day I cleaned up the blood and did not have gloves on. I am waiting the results of my blood test but wondered what my chances are that I contracted hiv because of the splinter I had in my hand.

You have been exposed to infected blood and chances of acquiring HIV is between 0.3 percent. You were a fit case for starting PEP (Post exposure prophylaxis) , but as it has gone by more than 72 hours, it can' t be initiated now .

hi
if you have cleaned the blood with your bare hands or if you get in to contact with the blood directly on to your splinter in your hand then there is a chance of getting HIV.

Generally HIV Virus do not survive in open air so if blood was on floor for a longer time then the virus would not have survived for longer period. in that case your chance of getting HIV IS 0%.

You can go for RT-PCR( reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction ) which detects HIV at a very early stage.

hope i have cleared your doubt
all the best
