Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello- Diognosed with Hep B 23 years ago. Had liver biopsy & everything okay. Good helth since. Had routing blood test recently and ALT = 248, AST = 98, Total Bili = 1.7, everything else in normal range. Reactive for Hep B Antigen, non-reactive for Antibodies. Still feel great and have no other health issues. Scheduled for ultrasound next. Does this sound like liver damage caused by an active Hep B infection? What will the ultrasound show (does it show liver damage)?
hi, You are having active hepatitis due to hepatitis b virus ultrasound may or may not show anything, what is important is the level of liver enzymes, hepatitis b viral dna titre and presence or absence of HBeag. You seem to be having chronic hepatitis c infection and hence proper follow up with a gastroenterologist is a must, irrespective of whether liver seems normal in ultrasound or not,as many cases of chronic viral hepatitis can land in complications. Treatment will help in many cases. All the best
