Can Adding A Couple Of Drops Of Betadine For Water Help In Increasing Iodine Levels?
Since it seems that many of us Americans are low on iodine, it seems logical that adding a couple of drops of betadine to a quart or gallon of water would be a good thing. Might kill anything that needs killing in the water AND help with iodine levels. Any reason not to, other than the official "external use only" labeling?
Betadine (povidone-iodine) is a topical preparation and contains 1% iodine. It is meant only for external use as it contains 1-ethenyl-2-pyrrolidinone homopolymer compound with iodine which is considered to be a hazardous component. Hence povidone-iodine is advised for external use. Its use can cause complications which include stricture of the oesophagus.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Wishing you all the best.
