Can An Unsuccessful Cardioversion With A Pacemaker Cause Sore Throat, Heart Palpitations?

My Mom had Cardioversion last Thursday and it was unsuccessful and then had a pacemaker placed on Monday and went home from the hospital this past Tuesday. She has developed a sore throat, more on one side and feels like it might be one of her tonsils. Could this be in any way related to her surgery? Also, she has been feeling, what she says, feels like palpitations. Could this be due to her heart maybe slowing down and the pacemaker taking effect and getting her heart back in rhythym? Thank you!

Hi,

No, sore throat is not related to the cardioversion, neither the palpitation she feels, she may need to do ECHO imaging to know the cause of this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Salah Saad Shoman, Internal Medicine Specialist
