Can Antibiotic Drops Be Used For Eye Infection Causing Yellow White Goop Discharge Diagnosed Possible Viral Infection?
I have an eye infection that the doctor thinks is viral because I have a sore throat, so he said drops will not work. But I also have had lots of yellow-white goop discharging from my eyes, which makes me wonder if it is bacterial. I have not had the results back yet from the swab that the doctor did. I know that antibiotic drops will not help a viral infection, but I'm wondering if there is any harm in using Polysporin antibiotic drops on a viral infection, just in case it is bacterial. Will antibiotic drops irritate or damage my eyes if it turns out to be viral?
Hello It seems from the history that you are having sore throat with eye infection in the form of conjunctivitis. Though most of the conjunctivitis start as viral infections, secondary bacteria infections will lead to yellow discharge. Infect in all viral conjunctivitis antibiotics eye drops are used to prevent secondary bacterial infections. Antibiotic eye drops can be used safely and they are must in your case as you are having yellow discharge which indicates secondary bacterial infection. Hence you can use the antibiotic eye drops safely.
Thank you
