What Causes Bright Red Mark Around A Mosquito Bite?
My husband was bitten by mosquitoes on his leg on Monday and on Tuesday night we noticed big bright red marks around the bites. It is about the size of a quarter but in odd shapes. I applied Polysporin cream last night but it did not change color yet. Should we be concerned?
It may be insect bite dermatitis. Redness is erythema caused by toxins injected by an insect. The patient may feel burning, itching and pain. The lesion is likely to be infected. So, it must be treated in a proper way. Consult the dermatologist for the perfect diagnosis and proper treatment.
I would suggest...
- a course of antibiotic
- antihistaminics like cetirizine
- oral steroid in a tapering dose
- apply mild steroid with antibiotic cream
- avoid soap bath.
