You have an enlarged uterus with multiple big fibroids. The treatment depends upon your age, desire to keep the uterus and future childbearing. Treatment options are : 1. Uterine artery embolization or blocking the blood vessel feeding the fibroid. Failure rate is high. Mostly short term relief. 2. Myomectomy: removal of fibroid while keeping the uterus. Done in women wanting children or wanting to keep a uterus. May not be possible to remove all fibroids. So remaining ones may recur and lead to hysterectomy later. 3. Hysterectomy: best as uterus is removed with fibroids so they cannot recur. 4. Drugs like danazole, GnRh analogues: lot of side effects and not useful in big fibroids.
So please discuss all of these with your doctor and choose the one that suits you according to your specific needs.
Hope I was able to help. Thanks and feel free to post any more queries. Dr Nilajkumar Bagde Consultant Ob Gynec.
