Hello,
Your
TSH value of 0.002 indicates that it is suppressed and there is excess thyroid hormones circulating in your blood stream.
Excess thyroid hormones in blood stream may be because of the following causes:
1. Excessive prodcution - Graves disease
2. Excessive release secondary to destruction of thyroid follicles - Thyroiditis
3. Excessive exogenous thyroid hormone intake - If you are already taking thyroxin
Antibodies (AMA) are neither specific or sensitive in identifying or differentiating thyroidits from graves disease. Thyroid antibodies are elevated in both the conditions.
For proper treatment, you have to differentiate thyroiditis (often a self limiting condition) from Graves disease (Requires proper treatment). This is usually done using thyroid scanning or
Radioactive iodine uptake.
No other investigation can differentiate between the two.
Thyroiditis usually needs supportive care and usually reverts to euthyroid status or goes into
hypothyroidism.
Graves is a serious condition requiring prolonged treatment and may affect the heart and weaken the bones apart from affecting the eyes.
