Can Being Off Medication For Hypothyroidism Cause Adverse Effects?

I have hypothyroidism and for a while I skipped doses and eventually stop taking them all together . I ve started taken them again. What can happen if you don t take the medication for a long period of time . I know I felt tired but can your thyroid swell or can it produce nodules. I take 100 mcg for the last 20 years but this was the first time i didn t them for weeks perhaps longer. I did feel tired & I felt a swelling for the 1st time. Could I have adversely affected my thyroid gland by staying of the meds for long period of time?

I really appreciate your concern, if it is hypothyroidism and you stop taking medicine for this then you can have the symptoms again of this thyroid dysfunction, taking medicine and thyroid gland condition are two different condition medicine does not affect anything on gland, least concern whether you take medicines or not what ever happened to it has happened, hope this information helps, take care.
