Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter was prescribed benzonatate for a persistent cough she has had for 3 weeks now. She started taking 2 tablets 3 times a day (100mg) yesterday but it doesn t seem to be helping her. Her coughing is especially bad at night time. A friend recommended nyquil. Can she take that on top of the benzonatate or should she stop the benzonatate and switch to nyquil? Does it take a few days for the benzonatate to work?
Benonatate is a mild anaesthetic to damp down the tickle of a cough. It has few side effects and few interactions. It is often used with other cold medicines.
