Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Bleeding Gums And Bone Pain In Legs Be Symptoms Of Childhood Leukemia?
My daughter is 3 and a half years old now. When she was born I've noticed that she had a lump (pea sized) on each side of her neck. Since she's two she developed bone pain in her legs almost every other day and she sometimes wakes her up during the night in tears because of the pain and 5ml of Calpol does the trick every time. Two days ago she had a fever (38.8 Celsius degree) for a couple of days, ever since she has bleeding gums in at least three locations (upper left&right canine and lower left first molar) that I can see. When I googled all the above symptoms, childhood leukemia came up. Some of the symptoms sound very familiar (such as -Prolonged or recurrent episodes of fever -Irritability and/or protracted crying -Growth restriction and/or failure to thrive -Shortness of breath and/or reduced exercise tolerance -Bleeding diathesis, particularly causing epistaxis, bleeding gums and/or easy bruising -Muscular or bony pain, particularly in the legs -Troublesome constipation -Prolonged cough) in her case. However, she's not pale or anemic. So please can you advise if it's nothing to worry about or we should take her to a doctor or a dentist?
I would suggest that you need not panic because these signs and symptoms can occur in lot of other diseases. For all we know it could be two totally isolated issues, I.e the bleeding and bone pain.
But should not be ignored, please do go back to your doctor and get the investigations done, so that your doubt can be cleared.
