Can Cold Causes Swollen Throat And Eyes?

I came down with a cold or flu on Friday night, the symptoms started showing around five and escalated quickly. By Saturday morning my uvula was very swollen (I don't have tonsils anymore ) and the back of my throat was white. My sinuses did not become stuffed up until Saturday evening. This morning (Sunday), I woke up with a swollen and tender left eyelid. I took some nighttime medication, Tylenol Cold, so I don't know if maybe I passed out on top of something that bruised my eye. I've been icing it but it doesn't appear to be helping the swelling.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swollen throat and eyes which is due to sore throat and associated lymph node enlargement which is due to infection in throat due to streptococcus bacteria , sinusitis . The symptoms can also occur due to allergic reaction . I would suggest you to take preventive measures such as do warm saline gargles on daily basis. You should gargle with antiseptic mouthwash , do not apply any cosmetic product and take over the counter anti histamine like benadryl twice a day .. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. Take combination of antibiotic such as Amoxicillin and anti- inflammatory drugs. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test along with allergy test. Once proper diagnosis has been made start treatment accordingly. Doctor may also refer you to ophthalmologist for eye problem .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
