I am asking for a lady friend who had a heart attack about 1 yr ago but just found out that about 1/3 of her heart is dead tissue. Recall a study years ago about a South American heart surgeon who cut away such tissue with good results. Is that frequently done these days successfully?

Hi, Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Asad Riaz, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem. heart tissues are unable to regenerate it self .. once it dead can replace them.. to removing dead tissue is not a good idea Bcs it put patient in high risk for death due to arrhythmia or other surgery complication.. I have a lot patient whom heart is funtioning 20-30% they are living good life with proper precautions n Tx for heart prob.. now a days removing dead tissue is also not a good practice .. I haven't seen patient who underwent this procedure n I also advice u not to do this if u r planing for it... I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask.
