what does it mean if my children both have "very dull eardrums?" an ENT has recommended both my children have grommets. my youngest child has suffered several ear infections or we have been told they are red or have fluid behind for her whole life. She has no speech except "da" at 14 months so I am not completely surprised. However, my son is 4 and a half. He has never had an ear infection in his life. He suffers a stuffy nose all the time but I was unaware his ears were a problem. What do you think?
Both of children are suffering from acute serious otitis media. But if your younger child has several loss check for any sensorineural hearing loss as if loss is severe child speech will be affected. Your younger child need assessment like BERA and if SN loss present hearing aid given. If only conductive loss in both. Myringotomy /grommet insertion to be done
