Can Dust Cause Lung Infection?

After regrouting a small amount of tile in the shower in which dust was dislodged, I experienced extreme sore throat for 20 minutes. Then at night, sharp pain in shoulder blade through to right side of chest between ribs and arm pit. All symptoms stopped this morning, however, in early afternoon the pain in the muscle group over my breast towards my armpit has extreme sharp pain when I breathe deeply or cough. Do I have a lung infection from the dust?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
As you mentioned that there was dust when tile was dislodged .
During this episode you inhaled dust particles so they may have caused.
1 Allergy in airways , so this causes hyperresponsiveness to airways and this causes constriction .Hence you develops sharp pain during breathing & coughing.
2 The next reason you may have develops allergy with infection ( inhaled in dust of tile during breathing ) . Sore throat may be due to allergy and infection .
So when such patient visit my clinic I prescribe them to take monteleukast+ fexofenadine tablets . Also hot saline gargles . Levofloxacin 750 mg one tablet / day for 3 days .
If breathlessness present you may need salbutamol tablet according to necessity.
Good luck.
