Can Fluctuating Sodium Level Cause Swelling And Pain Around Clavicle?
My mother has a problem maintaining her sodium levels. Consequently she is on a 1250 ml fliud restriction in 24hrs. She has developed a swollen, painful area around her right clavicle near the mid line, could this be connected to the sodium problem? Thank you.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. Normal Sodium Levels in Serum is 135 to 145 mEq/L (or millimoles/L). Fluctuations in sodium levels does not cause swollen, painful area around the clavicle close to mid line. This swelling could be an infected lymph node behind the clavicle. Hence it needs to be evaluated. Kindly get a x-ray and ultrasound of the region and Consult Surgeon for proper opinion and management. Hope the information provided would be useful. All the best.
