Can Food Poisoning Cause Abdominal Pains And Constipation?

Good morning, Doctor. Thank you for seing me on such short notice. After a miserable weekend concerning my digestive system, and numerous suspicions, dehydration from working in an attic on a summer afternoon, hernia scar flare-up a year after surgery, mistaking an old vicodin for an older Tylenol, and no sleep at all last night, I asked my ride, my son's friend, if he had any problem with the Friday night pizza. Son of a gun. Even though his symptoms were different, it was the pizza. While he experienced a short bout with mega nausea, I spent all night Saturday urinating, and then all night Sunday running to restroom with abdominal pains, failure of bowels to move, and only a clear discharge where the stools should have been. I am feeling much better now, I am at work, but much better meens not every 15min, and still no bowel movement. Can yuh hep me out, please. I am 58, 170lbs, 5'9''

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to food poisoning. I suggest you to:

- Avoid solid foods until vomiting ends. Then eat light, bland foods, such as saltine crackers, bananas, rice, or bread.
-Sipping liquids may help avoid vomiting.
-Don't eat fried, greasy, spicy, or sweet foods.
-Don't take anti-nausea or anti-diarrhoea medication
-Take probiotics daily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
