Can Foot Surgery Be Performed While Having Mild Chest Congestion?
I'm scheduled for foot surgery on Monday using a general anesthesia... I've had mild chest congestion over the last week. my Dr prescribed a zpack which I took the last one today. I'm not coughing up any phlegm I can breathe through my nose fine although I can feel a deeper sinus pressure. My coughing is almost completely gone (1 every 3 hrs or so) but I can still feel a lingering tickle in my chest. What are my chances of them being able to perform the surgery? I'm 43 and I'm good health otherwise. Thank you
Hi, Your symptoms are resolving and will probably be gone in a couple of days. Therefore, surgery and anesthesia will most likely be uncomplicated. I suggest you mention to the anesthetist that you are recovering from a chest infection and have completed antibiotics. The anesthetist may wish to examine your chest and check your temperature on the day of surgery to satisfy themselves that you are clear. Hope all goes well. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
