Can Fungal Infection Be A Cause Of Enlarged Tonsil ?

My son (3yrs) has had a grossly enlarged tonsil for over a year. It is the same color as the rest of his mouth, not red or irritated, he is not constantly sick, but he does occasionally choke on food or vomit. The tonsil is large enough it touches his uvula. Several rounds of different antibiotics did not affect it, except perhaps to make it larger. We have noticed athlete s foot-type blisters on his fingers, too. Could he have a fungal infection inside this tonsil?

Hi Anna,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic Forum
Your child is having enlarged tonsils which is the reason for the child to have difficulty in swallowing food. Fungal infection will not cause enlargement of tonsils. Enlarged tonsils are very common in children and few are affected by its enlargement. This will pose him to malnutrition and poor weight gain. I would recommend to get the tonsils off, as they are the hindering the growth of the child. Better to feed the child with fruits and vegetables as they are the natural sources of vitamins which can improve the nutrition as well as the immunity of the child.
Take care

Regards
