Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 7 months now; I am a working mother hence started Cerelac Rice stage 1 for her since her 6th month. Can I introduce other variants - Cerelac Wheat/Wheat Apple stage 1; so she can have different tastes? Some people say, wheat has gluten and is hard to digest, causes heat to baby.. Please advise.
1. According to the Department of Health, 6 months is the age recommended for introducing solid foods in infants [gluten is a protein which is found in cereals] so you can definitely give her other variants containing gluten, since if at all she will be allergic to gluten [celiac disease] will be noticed between 9-18 months of age [diarrhea, poor weight gain, bloated abdomen, less appetite] and then you can consult a dietitian who can help you choose for gluten-free diet.
PS. You may talk to your primary care doctor to determine your baby's genetic predisposition for this disorder as there is no conclusive research/ evidence to show the best time to introduce gluten
2. Continue breastfeeding until your baby is one year old as it will help increase her immunity by fighting against bacteria/viruses
