I carry weight/fat on my stomach in the section between my chest and navel - I've read somewhere that this can be a sign of high cortisol levels (caused by stress) or a thyroid problem. I have an underactive thyroid and have been on replacement therapy for about 15 years. I am due to see my GP later this week and want to know what to ask him about/for.
Thanks
It is true.High cortil levels can cause abnormal adipose tissue diatribution and abdominal fat.
At the other side your weght gain can be the result of your underactive thyroid. This means that your dosage of thyroid hormone replacement therapy is not right. If you were my patient i will ask to do the TSH test and a cortisole test in the morning and evening.
These test will give the information if you need a thyroid hormone dose adjustment and if you have adrenel or pituitary gland problems.
I suggest to talk with your GP about the hypothyroidism and Cushing syndrome symptoms.
Hope i have clarified all your doubts. If you have other questions, feel free and ask .I will be happy to help. Wish you all the best.
