Can Hydrocortisone Be Given In Case Of Bleeding From Nostrils?

Hello,

My question is for Dr. Shehzad Topiwala M.D.

I have a 12 Y/O daughter with a Non-Classical CAH and is being treated with 20 mg\day of Hydrocortisone. (Starting 4 month ago)

Suddenly today her nose started bleeding quite heavily starting in one nostril and then from both of them.

It took quite a while to stop the bleeding (approx. 10 minutes).

Could the nose bleed be connected to the hydrocortisone or the N-C CAH?

Thanks,

Ron

hello and welcome to health care magic,

Steroids can theoretically cause bleeding from nose but it is very rare and in your daughters case the problem which caused bleeding could be anything local in the nose such as a blocked nose or nose picking or just a crust.

You can get a complete blood check up and also a CT PNS and get back to me or any ENT with the reports but rest assured Hydorcortisone if used under proper guidance and used properly is a life saving medication

regards
