Have generalized tonic clonic epilepsy w/ multiple seizures monthly, causeing bodily injuries that get worse every time. Meds don't control, keep adding new ones. Considering hysterectomy since my seizures seem to be linked at times to hormonal changes during cycles. 32 but done bearing children. Can hysterectomy help?
I read your question and I understand what you are going through.
First of all before even considering this you should be sure the seizures are linked to menstrual changes. The use of the term "at times" makes me think that has not been studied properly. In cases where there is catamenial epilepsy (seizures happening during the cycle), the treatment to be considered is hormonal treatment. You have to understand that the seizure - cycle relation is due to hormonal changes not the sexual organs itself, so that is the most sensible management. Other drastic measures such as the removal of the ovaries and uterus which you mention haven't been well studied and their efficacy has not been proven. There are individual reports of improvement but also unsuccessful cases, so taking into consideration also the effects of early menopause on your general health I wouldn't recommend it.
I hope to have been of help.
