Can I Stop Taking Warfarin For DVT If It Causes Dizziness?
I am 45, been taking 10mg of warfarin for 7 months for a dvt, I had surgery to remove the clot, never had a problem before this, they are saying it was birth control hormone. I dont like warfarin makes me sluggish and dizzy always. seriously will it hurt if I stop? my doctor is not helpfull and is checking my INR monthly which is always 2.8.
Hi, If you have had Warfarin for seven months and this was your first episode of DVT then you can stop it now. Benefit is usually only for three to six months as thereafter the risk of embolism is not significant. What surgery did you undergo? If they have put a stent or an IVC filter they might require longer anticoagulation or Warfarin therapy. I usually advice my patients Warfarin for 6 months followed by Ecosprin 75mg and Folic acid lifelong thereafter with no need of INR monitoring. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
