Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Increased Dosage Of Oxycodone Cause Side Effects For Long Term?
I have been taking 30 mg of Oxycodone for about a year, 30 mg every 4 hours. lately the pain starts in about three hours, why is this and by me taking a half of a tablet more what are the long term effects if any. and if you can tell me what is the total mg a person can take without harming yourself.
There is no information on what type of oxycodone you are using. If is is of immediate release formulation, I would advice you to consult your physician and ask for extended release formulation. As you begin to take more doses, the body begins to adapt to higher doses which is called as drug tolerance. At the end you may require more and more of oxycodone. On long term there are many side effects like it can cause drowsiness, blurred vision, constipation and sometimes life threatening respiratory depression. It is advisable to use extended release capsules or tablets for long term use. The maximum dose of extended release capsule that can be taken per day is 288mg. Discuss the above points with your caregiver and proceed with the future prescriptions. hope this helps. Thanks.
