Can Intake Of Melatonin In Small Dose Affect An Infant?

I have been having trouble sleeping, and have been very stressed lately, and I'm worried about my melatonin production. I'm still nursing my 1 year old, and he has not been sleeping well lately. He is teething, and usually sleeps worse, but I am wondering if it would hurt him if I take a small dose of melatonin just for a couple nights.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Thank you for the question. There is no clear evidence as to the effects of melatonin in breastfed infants. However, current literature suggests that babies receiving melatonin doses higher than that expected in breast milk, suffered no adverse effects. This suggests that short term usage of melatonin supplement, in it's recommended dose, is likely safe.
