Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Intake Of Statin To Lower Cholesterol Cause Elevated Blood Sugar Level?
I HAVE BEEN TYPE-II DIABETIC SINCE 2006, RECENTLY TWO DRUG ELUDING STENTS ARE PLACED IN MY HEART, FOR WHICH I AM TAKING AZTOR-80MG, BRILLIANTA, ECOSPORIN-100MG TABLETS DAILY. BESIDES I AM TAKING GLUCONORM-G1-FORTE TWICE DAILY. MY HBA1C IS AROUND 9.0 MY FSB TODAY IS AT 170 AND TWO HOUR PPBS IS AT 234. HOW TO REDUCE THE BLOOD SUGAR LEVEL AND WITH WHAT REGIMEN OF MEDICINE. I DOUBT IF AZTOR (STATIN) USED FOR LOWERING CHOLESTEROL FOLLOWING ANGIOPLASTY IS THE REASON BEHIND SUCH INCREASE IN BLOOD SUGAR? PLEASE SUGGEST REMEDIES.
Hi, First of all your sugar value is too high, as indicated by Hba1c values. The statin group of drugs that help to lower the cholesterol level has nothing to do with your blood glucose level. Currently you are on bigunaides (metformin) + sulfonlyurea (glipizide) I would strongly recommend to consult a diabetician, and to increase your dosage or to add other group of drug such as thiazolidinediones which would help you a lot. following a strict diabetic diet would help a lot. Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
