General & Family Physician, Dr. Taimoor's Response
Thanks for asking at HCM. I have read your question and I understand your concern. Well a missed period could be because of number of reasons like uterine fibroids, polycystic ovaries, premature ovarian failure, eating disorders (extreme weight loss or excessive exercise), or a pregnancy. If your periods are irregular and you don't have mensis even after the longest period you ever had, then a urine dipstick pregnancy test should be done at that time. An irregular period by itself can cause a delay in periods, but the delay in period should better be checked for pregnancy by a urine dipstick test. I hope it will be of some help. If you find it insufficient or you had any query feel free to ask. Thanks Dr Taimur
