Hello,
Since your friend has been diagnosed with Ischemic
optic neuropathy, get confirmed if she is having reduced
color vision, pain on movement of the eye, any
vision loss.
Get her eyes checked by an ophthalmologist (
visual field test, MRI-brain to check inflammation of the
optic nerve).
Optic neuropathy commonly occurs due to the damage to the optic nerve due to blockage of its blood supply. The blockage may occur due to inflammation of the nerve or sometimes due to other cause (glaucoma, neurological disorders, nutritional deficiencies, genetics or ocular herpes).
If left neglected it may cause blindness in the long run. However, get fully confirmed of the eye reports & diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
