Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Fluctuating BP Levels While Having Ischemic Optic Neuropathy Indicate?
Husband diagnosed with eschemic optic neuropathy. BP in GP s office w/ mercury monitor 142/86. Doc checked our at-home monitor against his readings. He recommended lifestyle changes w/out drugs (which he has made for 2 weeks). Husband takes BP at home everyday, remaining steady close to previous reading noted. Yesterday at new opthomologist office, scarey visit, his BP shot up to 168/85. They insisted he get on meds. Today he took his 1st Lisinopril 10 mg. We have wonderful internist who will be watching & controlling treatment. But we are wondering how long before he notices changes in BP w/ at home monitor? Also, since BP varies when at stressful speciality visit, what reading will determine when his BP is good? Thank you-
* As per my clinical experience, the ischemic optic neuropathy indicates issue of long term uncontrol hypertension or associated diabetes underlying affecting micro vasculature of the retina.
* The blood pressure must be evaluated in specific conditions as:
- same physician with same BP instrument and same standard technique
- patient should be remaining in calm position of body and mind ( it is strongly recommended to let patient relax in waiting room for couple of minutes before check up )
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
