Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Light Sensitivity Be A Reaction To Benadryl Or Yellow Jackets Stings?
I was stung by yellow jackets today. The second time in 3 weeks. Approximately 6 stings. I immediately washed the stings, swabbed with ammonia, took 2 benedryl and applied ice. I experienced what seemed to be an extreme sensitivity to light. Whites and light colors seemed to glow - almost like looking directly at the sun. Is this reaction indicative of something more serious? Is it a reaction to the benedryl or stings? it passed after about 15 minutes.
Hello I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Yellow jackets sting can cause dizziness but photo sensitivity is more common with Benedryl. The symptoms of photo sensitivity with Benedryl occurs within 24 hours when exposed to sunlight or UV radiation after taking the medication and sensitivity can increases with subsequent dose. It is recommended to stop taking the medication that cause severe sensitivity to light. Hope your concern is answered. Thank you.
