thanks. just wondering if low haemoglobin can cause joint pain. my dad has had severe joint pain for a few weeks. prescribed valium, now prednisone. helping a bit. yesterday strong chest pain, possibly angina. had ECG nothing abnormal. his haemoglobin is low and he has never had anaemia related problems before?
Hello and welcome to HCM, Anemia is not probably the cause of joint pain. Joint pain can occur due to joint related disorders like trauma, arthritis which can be inflammatory or autoimmune. Response to steroids (prednisone) suggests the joint problem to be autoimmune in nature. Low hemoglobin or anemia can lead to tiredness and lethargy. Pain in the chest can be due to disorders of cardiovascular system, respiratory system or musculoskeletal system. However, a normal ECG rules out disorders of cardiovascular system. But if the pain persists you need go for further investigations like echocardiography and stress test to rule out cardiovascular disorder.
