Can Low PH Balance Cause Painful Intercourse In A 58 Year Old Woman?
I had a complete hysterectomy 12 years ago, I m 58 years old and we ve had hot tub for the past 6 years. Getting a new one a year ago. I mention this because my husband of 37 years and I, have significantly reduced the number of times we have intercourse because it has become extremely painful for me.. I was blaming it on being post menopausal but, now I wonder if my pH balance could be off? How would a doctor determine this? Thank you.
I don't think your pH balance would cause you to have pain during sex, but being postmenopausal, a common cause of pain during sex is vaginal dryness from the lack of estrogen that comes with being post-menopausal.
This is often treated with topical estrogen, so I would suggest seeing your doctor to confirm this may be the cause and starting treatment to see if that helps.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
