Hallow Dear,

Any pregnancy has a potential of miscarriage up to 10%.

Since you had one previous miscarriage, this risk is marginally increased, particularly when you do not know the cause underlying the previous miscarriage. However, it does not mean that you cannot have a normal baby in this pregnancy. There are about 90% chances that you will have a normal pregnancy and will get a normal child.

Since cause of your previous miscarriage was not investigated, you will have to keep a close watch on the current pregnancy through some investigations. Though certain investigations like amniocentesis (taking out the fluid around the baby for study) and chorionic villus biopsy (taking few cells from the potential placental tissue for study) can provide the genetic and chromosomal information of the child and whether this child is not capable of growing further, these tests are rather invasive and themselves carry risk of miscarriage or harm to baby. Hence unless specifically indicated by any other previous history or other investigations like ultrasonography, these tests are differed.

I would advise you to have regular ultrasonography study for the normalcy & growth of the baby and the progress of pregnancy. If any indications are noted, then you might be advised invasive investigations.

Once an abortion does not mean every time an abortion. So be watchful, take all the care advised by your Obstetrician be adherent to all the medical advices.

Tab. Folic acid daily will help the normal growth of the baby and placenta. Start it right away. Consume plenty of fresh fruits, Milk, green leafy vegetables and high protein, moderate carbohydrate and low fat diet when morning sickness goes.

Do not be scared. Mother's scare always affects the baby adversely - physically as well as psychologically.

Be a brave mother and be prepared for a bonny baby to breastfeed.

Hallow Dear,

Pregnancy 9 weeks after the miscarriage should not be adversely affected. 6 weeks after the miscarriage the reproductory system regains its normalcy.

Please get pregnancy confirmed by Beta hCG test or ultrasonography since you have not had menses after the miscarriage.

Get information from your Obstetrician about the cause for the previous abortion and see that the same does not recur again; and if it is present, get it treated effectively.

Hope this helps you.
