Can Numbness In The Fingers Be Related To Pain In The Shoulder/neck?

My left hand pointer finger has been numb for 2 weeks and was tingling 2 weeks prior. I saw a chiropractor 6 weeks ago for neck/shoulder pain, and then 2 weeks later received a deep massage in that shoulder. The tingling began after the massage and was not present with the back/shoulder original pain. The chiropractor did an x-ray and said I have a degenerative disc in my neck. Would my finger (and sometimes thumb) be numb due to my neck/disc, or shoulder? Other options?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* The cervical spondylosis do pose issues with nerve compression affecting various motor and sensory function of upper arm, forearm and fingers depending upon the type of nerve root involved and extent of the same.

Needs an MRI of the cervical spine and brachial plexus to evaluate the in-depth damage extent for your condition and later on management protocols may be figured out accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
