My elderly father was dx this evening in the ER with a unruptured Carotid Artery brain aneurysm---although they said it was an "incidental finding" what lead us to the ER was his constant feeling of doom and panic. His BP and pulse was all over the place- very high at times. He had a nasty fall straight onto concrete from a sitting position falling over backwards striking the occipital region just about 1 month ago and has not felt the same since. What does his future hold with this pending aneurysm? Are the doom and panic feelings he keeps experiencing related to this?
Feeling of doom and panic does not seem to be related to that fall or unruptured aneurysm. Possibly its "Panic Attack", likely as psychiatric disorder. Unruptutured aneurysm is usually asymptomatic, only if it is very large, then can cause pressure effect on near by structures. But it it ruptures - can lead to subarachnoid hemorrhage with severe headache/vomittings. There is very less chance of rupture if aneurysm size is less than 7 mm. I advice you to consult psychiatrist (for panic disorder) and Neurosurgeon (for aneurysm management).
